Lux Center for the Arts, Lincoln NE offering....

Y.A.R.D. - YOUNG ARTISTS REACHING 4 DREAMS
YARD (Young Artists Reaching 4 Dreams) is designed for high school
students serious about the arts. It is a pilot program that will
address professional issues of a career in art. Students will write
artist statements, compile resumes and other professional practices.
They will learn how to document artwork and put together portfolios
that get noticed. Students will talk with professionals in the field
through panel discussions and studio tours to gain an understanding
of the opportunities and careers in the visual arts. Field trips will
include visits to Sheldon Art Gallery, Frameworks, UNL Textiles
Department and local mural artist, Tom Meyers.

The class is scheduled for Saturdays, Nov 8-Dec 20 from 3-5pm (no
class on Nov 29).

To be considered for the program, students must complete an
application (attached) and submit it by October 10. Admission into
the YARD program is competitive and only 15 students will be
admitted. Any age high school student is eligible. Admission will be
based on their application and we will admit those that we feel will
get the most out of this program.

Tuition is FREE. Students that are accepted into the program will be
required to become 'Student Members' of Lux Center for $15. This
membership money will help to fund similar programs in the future. In
the spring, we will be offering a similar class geared towards
professional practices within the gallery setting - hanging shows,
pricing, lighting, hosting a reception, exhibition opportunities,
etc. We will also host a student juried exhibition in April at Lux in
the main gallery so keep your eyes open for the prospectus related to
that.

I am personally very passionate about provided this opportunity to
budding artists...please help me spread the word! Pass along the form
or this email to anyone that you feel would be interested. Thank you
and don't hesitate to contact me with questions. I welcome the
opportunity to come to your classroom and talk with your students
about this program. Contact me if you are interested.

Thank you for your time and for telling your students about this
opportunity. Hope the school year is off to a great start!!
