Success stories of the bus grant (and info about the bus grant)
Several teachers have sent me some great events that were sponsored by
this grant...thought they should be shared. Chris Brown

We were able to take advantage of this in November. We took 35 of our kids
from Crete Middle School to the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha to take part in
interactive workshops and a performance by the Omaha Symphony and Omaha
Theater Ballet. The NAC paid for our bus cost and each student's admission
of $14! What a great experience that we might not have had otherwise.
Just our success story!

School Bus Grant funds for Arts Field Trips
The Nebraska Arts Council (NAC) offers grants to underwrite the cost of
arts-related field trips and admission fees to attend arts events such as
live music, dance or theatre performances and cultural exhibits. This
successful program has allowed students from across Nebraska to
participate in a wide array of arts events. For example: fourth graders
from Gordon Elementary School in northwest Nebraska were able to attend a
live theatre performance at the Midwest Theatre in Scottsbluff. Students
from Lexington, West Point and Madison were able to view artworks from the
Sheldon Gallery in Lincoln. Numerous schools in Omaha and Lincoln
attended concerts by the Omaha Symphony Orchestra. So far this school
year, over 48 grants have been awarded serving over 2500 students.
Funding is still available for field trips occurring between January 1 and
June 30, 2009. All Nebraska accredited Pre-K through Grade 12 public &
private schools are eligible to receive funding. Field trips must include
an arts or cultural performance, exhibit, or activity. Schools may be
reimbursed for actual transportation and admission costs up to $500.
Priority will be given to schools/communities that lack access to cultural
programs due to geography, economic conditions, background or disability
as measured by percentage of students on free/reduced lunch. Applications
should be received by the NAC four weeks prior to the field trip.
Applications are reviewed on a "first-received, first-funded" basis until
all available funds are awarded. Applicants may receive one grant per
school each year. Application forms can be downloaded from the NAC
website at: www.nebraskaartscouncil.org, and click on School Bus Grants.
